Who we are
The Club Riichi de Montréal exists to promote mahjong, more specifically Japanese (Riichi) mahjong, in the greater Montréal area. Everyone is welcome to attend our activities, no matter the level of experience or skill with the game. The club is also bilingual and open to both English and French speakers.
History
The club was initially founded in 2004 as Mahjong Montréal, then became the Club Riichi de Montréal in 2013. The club has since grown in size and organizes regular meetups in gaming cafés and other such venues in the Montréal area. These meetups generally occur every other Sunday. The club currently has about 30 active members (attending meetups regularly or semi-regularly).
Since 2015, the club has hosted the Montréal Riichi Open, an open tournament that usually takes place around early June. In its first year, it attracted 12 players. It grew all the way to 40 players in the 2023 edition, which remains the biggest edition to date.
Logo
The club’s logo is based on Montréal’s area code of 514.
Events and contact
Official club meetups are held twice a month at alternating venues. The club also organizes online play sessions, online strategy discussion sessions and tournaments. Club activities, announcements and event planning are primarily hosted on our Discord server.
